Stephen Kerchansky Obituary

Cherished Husband, Father and "PaPa" Stephen D. Kerchansky, age 69, of Millcreek Twp., died Sunday, April 3, 2011, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Carnegie, Pa., September 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Stephen R. and Katherine Mykita Kerchansky. He graduated from Gannon University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers. Stephen belonged to the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and was a helper for the Sunshine Group. Through his battle, Stephen showed such remarkable strength and faith in God that he was admired by many. His grandchildren made him proud and inspired him. He loved to be with them and enjoyed their laughs and smiles. He loved being their "PaPa". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend, Lucille Tyczkowski Kerchansky, in 2007 and two sisters, Mary Kerchansky and Katherine Lally. Survivors include five children, Karen Clark and her husband, Bryan, of North East, Suzanne Natalie and her husband, Alan, of Fairview, Matthew Kerchansky and his wife, Amy, Daniel Kerchansky and his wife, Alicia and Michael Kerchansky and his wife, Angela, all of Erie; and ten grandchildren, Angelina, Melania, Giovanni, Bryanna, Lucas, Quinten, Ian, Karlee, Ava and Ziva. Mr. Kerchansky,

I just found out about your passing, due to my being on short-term disability from work, and I have to tell you that my heart hurts. You were one of my favorite patients, and I will truly miss you. Thing simply will not be the same. I will miss talking to you, and your stories of the "Gentlemen's Meetings". As a patient, you truly impacted my life, and I will miss you always. GOD obviously needed you in heaven, but remember we all loved having you here with us.

You Are Blessed,

Gloria Shotwell

Steve was a second father to me since I was in kindergarten. There wasn't a week that went by throughout my childhood that I was not at the Kerchansky house. Steve and LuAnn made their house open to me and I am very thankful for all they did for me. I was like another child to them but most important they were another set of parents for me. Their sons Matt, Dan, and Mike were my brothers growing up. We did everything together from playing hockey, going to the Y, and playing Atari/Sega,Play Station/Nitendo. Without Steve, I wouldn't be the person I am today and have the life-long friends that I do.
My condolences to my brothers and sisters...the Kerchansky family.
