Constance Wheat Obituary

Constance Powell Wheat, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, April 12, at home after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at First United Methodist Church in Dothan with the Rev. Lynn Nesbitt and Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Visitation at the church will begin at 1 p.m.
Born in Henry County, Connie was the daughter of the late Dorothy Cathey and William V. Powell.
Surviving are son Robert D. Wheat Jr. of Gainesville, Ga.; daughter Kathryn H. Wheat of New Orleans; daughter Elizabeth L. Wheat and husband Steven Adkison of New Hope; sister Teresa Sheffield and husband Jimmy of Ozark; nephew Mike Dixon Jr. and wife Cici of Eufaula; niece Claudia Balkcom and husband Henry of Georgetown; sister Mary Sue Campbell and husband Wayne of Tulsa, Okla.; nephew Gary Campbell of Boulder, Colo.; niece Linda Pevac of Tulsa, Okla.; several great-nieces and nephews and caregiver Belinda Robinson.
Connie graduated from Eufaula High School and attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery.
A long-time Dothan resident, Connie was active in several community organizations including the Dothan Service League, the Garden Study Club and the Eclectas Club. After spending her early years in Dothan as a homemaker, Connie worked in retail and later owned and successfully operated Social Engravers. She was a productive artist, working in a variety of media. Connie also enjoyed many hobbies including reading, gardening and travel, as well as entertaining dear friends with her singular wit. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.
Byrd Funeral Home in Dothan is in charge of arrangements.
