Woodrow Bledsoe Obituary

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson Bledsoe, 89, were held Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. (EDT) at Georgetown Baptist Church.
Mr. Bledsoe died Wednesday, May 14, of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
He was the youngest son of William Walton Bledsoe and Gussie Crumbley Bledsoe of Georgetown.
Mr. Bledsoe graduated from Middle Georgia College in 1939, and then served his country in the United States Army infantry during World War II, leading a reconnaissance patrol. He participated in the D-Day invasion and the liberation of Paris.
He was awarded both the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
After recovering from war injuries, he attended Emory University Law School and graduated in 1950. Mr. Bledsoe was a title attorney working for Lawyer's Title Insurance Corporation for 30 years.
In retirement, he enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with friends and family. His final battle was against Alzheimer's disease, which he bravely fought for more than eight years.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen Pappas Bledsoe; daughter Helen Bledsoe Adkins and son-in-law Chris Adkins of McDonough and grandsons Camden Kyle Adkins, Carter Bledsoe Adkins and Elliott William Adkins, all of McDonough, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, DeKalb Humane Society or a charity of your choice.

It is useless to attempt to describe the positive influence Woody had on thousands of people He was one of the smartest, quickest, friendliest, most loving, most courteous people I ever knew, and was ALWAYS ready to help anyone who came his way. Ego and selfishness were not even in his extensive (and at times colorful) vocabulary. Family, friends, honor and duty were always at the forefront. It is also appropriate, as we near the anniversary of "D-Day" that Woody was truly an American Hero, of the type we're not likely to often see again. It is no cliche to observe that the world is, indeed, a better place because Woody Bledsoe came our way. Currie and I send our most sincere sympathies to Helen, Helen Bess and Helen Bess' family.

I worked with Woody many years ago at Lawyers Title, where he took me under his wing. He was a good man and I know he will be missed by all who knew him. Sincerest condolences to his family.
