Charles Halter Obituary

HANOVER Charles Henry Halter, Jr., 78, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday evening, September 5, 2007 at York Hospital. Born January 9, 1929 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Charles H. Sr. and Marguerite (Sterner) Halter. Charles was the loving husband of Shirley M. (Hartman) Halter, who died March 22, 1983. Mr. Halter was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, The Hanover VFW Post 2506 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Hanover Lodge # 227. Mr. Halter was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a 1947 graduate of Eichleberger High School. He retired from the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board after 20 years of service as a sales clerk at stores located in Hanover & York. Charles is survived by two daughters, Karen L. Stambaugh and her husband William of New Oxford and Kathy A. Greenberg and her husband Paul of Louisville, Colo.; two grandchildren, Jaime McGlaughlin and Karrie Rutter; one great-grandchild, Casey L. Rutter; one brother John H. Halter of Hanover; and one sister, Shirley M. Bair of Hanover. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kimberly Redding. A service to celebrate and remember Charles's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery next to his late wife Shirley. A viewing and time to share memories will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Serving as casketbearers will be, Shon Rutter, Mike McGlaughlin, William Stambaugh, Paul Greenberg, John Halter and Jeff Bair. Memorial contributions in Charles's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924 N. Colonial Avenue, York, PA, 17403. The Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
