David Mummert Obituary

SPRING GROVE David N. Mummert, 86, died peacefully at his home on Tues day morning, March 13, 2007. He was the loving husband of Kathryn L. (Hoke) Mummert. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a hymn sing on October 8, 2006. The funeral service will be held in celebration and thanksgiving for David's life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ (Roth's) Lutheran Church, 580 Roth's Church Road, Spring Grove, with interim pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gerhard H.W. Roggenkamp, and his former pastor, the Rev. William H. Cluley, officiating. Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church. Private burial will be in St. Peter's (Lischey's) Church Cemetery in Spring Grove. Born on August 9, 1920, in Jackson Twp., David was one of 14 children born to the late Moses C. and Katie (Baublitz) Mummert. He retired in 1982 as Daytime Superintendent from the pulp mill of the P.H. Glatfelter Co. in Spring Grove, following 43 years of loyal employment. He was a member of the Mill Quarter Century Club. Mr. Mummert was a United States Navy Veteran and was a third class petty officer serving as a ship's cook during WW II. Mr. Mummert served in a number of organizations, but most important to him was his service to his church. He was an active and faithful member of Christ (Roth's) Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, where he served on the property committee. Dave was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love of nature as he hunted and fished with family and friends. Years of memories were made during family work days on his farmette in Spring Grove, and friends and neighbors alike will miss the bounty of fruits and vegetables he harvested and offered with joy. He was also an accomplished bowler and in 1967, he rolled the first sanctioned 300 game at Spring Grove Bowling Lanes. In addition to his loving and supportive wife, Kathryn, Dave will be dearly missed by his seven children, James A. Mummert and wife, Elaine, and David E. "Gene" Mummert and wife, Dorothy, all of York, Deborah L. Krause and husband, Carl of Dover, Gary L. Mummert and wife, Iris of Washington, D.C., George K. Mummert and wife, Jenny of Columbia, Mo., and Katye D. Clark and husband, Allan, and Sara A. Leese and husband, Ronald, all of Spring Grove; 15 grandchildren, and 18 greatgrandchildren, all of whom he cherished. He is also survived by his dear sister, Margaret Sterner of Spring Grove. He was preceded in death by two infant children, Esther and Paul Timothy Mummert; and by 12 brothers and sisters. Contributions may be made in Dave's memory to Christ (Roth's) Lutheran Church, 580 Roth Church Road, Spring Grove, PA, 17362; or to the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, c/o the Building Project, 4485 Wolf's Church Road, York, PA 17408. Kathryn & Family:
Just like my Dad, Dale Ruth, I thought Dave would live forever. What good friends you and Dave were to Dale and Ruby; always ready to give a hand and to share the bounty of the garden. Dave certainly will be missed. Please share our family sentiments, especially to George and Katie, who I know best. George and I graduated together at SGHS. Katie married my cousin.
We send you all good memories of times shared as your life's journey continues.

Dear Kathryn,

Marian and I wish to send you our sincerest Christian sympathy at the death of your beloved husband Dave. I still remeber when you got married although I was very young at the time. Your life together of 60+ years leaves you and all in the family a treasure trove of memories, of good times and not so good, of joy and sorrow. You have weathered them all and for that you can be grateful in that you had a bond of love that saw you through whatever life would bring. Savoring those times will bring you strength and comfort in the midst of the pain and grief of your physical separation through death. Those same memories will also remind you that even death cannot separate you from his spirit and all that he was throughout your long life togther.

We hope you will share our thoughts and prayers with all in your family, especially Jim and Dave who we knew better than the rest of your children. I can still remember walking to school with them to Menges Mills. Jim and Marian were classmates in the class of 58.

We regret that we are unable to share with you in person. It is such moments as this that we often wish we didn't live so far away. But please know Kathryn, that you and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

May God's special presence be with you and walk with you in this difficult transition in your life.

Love,

Doyle and Marian Luckenbaugh
