Doris Schafer Obituary

HANOVER Doris C. Schafer, 73, entered into God's eternal care Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. Doris was the loving wife of George W. Schafer, who died August 27, 2006. Born May 14, 1936, in Covington, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George and Louise (Myers) Jacobs. Doris was a member of the John Birch Society as well as the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky. She loved spending time with her family, baking, and was always a good neighbor to those around her. Doris is survived by six children, Emilie L. Shoemaker of Hanover, Jennifer L. Strauss of Spring Grove, Steven G. Schafer of Corapolis, Anita M. Schafer of Covington, Ky., Thomas W. Schafer of Hanover, and Anthony W. Schafer of Dickinson, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and one brother, Leonard Jacobs of Florence, Ky. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Cemetery Stone Chapel, 725 Baltimore St., Hanover, with the Rev. Allen G. Harris officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover. Serving as casketbearers will be Andrew Strauss, Anthony Schafer, Thomas Schafer, Toby Schafer, Clayton James, and G. Lee Shoemaker, Jr. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris' name may be made to the charity of your choice. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com
