Joel Jacob Fuhrman

HANOVER Joel Jacob Fuhrman, 78, formerly of Glen Rock, died January 19, 2014, at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. Viewing will be held 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, January 27, 2014, at Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, Pa. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon Monday at the church, with the Rev. Ronald Page officiating. Interment will follow the service at Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury, Pa. Mr. Fuhrman was born May 17, 1935, in Railroad, the son of the late George B. and Naomi May (Keeny) Fuhrman. He was the husband of Frances L. (Sweitzer) Fuhrman. Joel was a 1953 graduate of Susquehannock High School. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1986 after 31 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Saubel's Grocery Store in Shrewsbury. Joel was a member of Shrewsbury Assembly of God and had a love of music. He enjoyed singing, listening to music, and going to concerts, especially southern gospel and quartets. He sang in various groups, quartets and the choir at Shrewsbury Assembly of God. He also sang in the chorus during his high school years. Surviving are his wife, Frances L. Fuhrman, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage, August 2013; two nieces, Sheila (Bricker) Brodbeck and her husband Garry, and Wynne (Bricker) Allison and her husband Bradley; one nephew, Mark Bricker; three great nieces, Andrea, Alyssa and Lacey; and one sister, Esther (Fuhrman) Bricker. Also very special family friends, the Hacks and DeGarmos, who Joel considered his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shrewsbury Assembly of God Music Dept., 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361; or to the American Heart Assoc., 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., New Freedom, is in charge of arrangements.
