Fort Collins, CO
Matthew J. Linkel, 91, formerly of Kenilworth, NJ and Hanover, entered into rest January 29, 2017. He was born April 12, 1925 in Weltschingen, Germany.
Matthew was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church.
He and his wife, Katie Linkel have been married for 66 years. They were married in 1950 in Elizabeth, NJ.
He graduated from Colorado State University (formerly Colorado A & M) and was the owner of Linkel Consulting Services in Hanover. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a ground crew chief.
Matthew was a member of the American Legion, Elks, and Knights of Columbus (4th degree). Matthew was also a member of the Boys Scouts of America for over 50 years. He was Cubmaster for Pack 82 in Kenilworth, NJ, Scoutmaster for Troop 82 in Kenilworth, Committeeman for Troop 83 in Hanover, and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
His favorite hobbies were fishing, gardening, wine making and model trains.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Linkel; son, Stephan (wife, Elsie) of NJ; daughter, Mary of Fort Collins; three grandchildren, Corey, Galen (wife, Crystal), and Erin; and three great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Zhane, and Rioko.
A private funeral service will be held Friday, February 3, 2017.

I have so many great memories from my youth, from him teaching me to swim , to camping and boy scout training. I'll always remember his hearty laugh, and our many holidays together. I'm sure he was an inspiration to many people, with all the hard work he put into scouting. Uncle Matt you will be missed!

Matt was one of the greats! I so enjoyed being his neighbor for many years and loved his gardening tips and his wine-making skills. He had so many talents. He will be missed by many. Dona Shaffer
