Opal I. Conrad

LORAIN, OH Opal I. (Basinger) Conrad, 81, passed away peacefully at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Normandie Ridge in York. She was the wife of William R. Conrad, who preceded her in death on October 2, 1987. The funeral for Mrs. Conrad will be held in thanksgiving for her life at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh, with the Rev. John Hodge of Armagh United Methodist Church officiating. Viewings will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Armagh Cemetery in Armagh. Local arrangements are entrusted to Irwin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, PC, in Spring Grove. Opal was born January 5, 1928, in Connellsville, one of six children of the late Alex and Margaret (Keefer) Basinger. She was recently employed full time until her 80th birthday as a meat wrapper for the Giant Eagle in North Ridgeville, Ohio. She was a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union #880 and proudly served as the Union Steward for many years. Mrs. Conrad will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Lynn Dee of New London, Ohio, and Sharon L. Myers and husband, Dennis, of Spring Grove; three grandchildren, Brett, Tony, and Kendra; three greatgrandchildren, Liam, Owen, and Addison; and a sister, Ruth DeMichelis of Dunbar. She was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie Kern; three brothers, Glenn, Donald, and Dale Basinger; and a son-in-law, Tim Dee.
