Richard Markle Obituary

Richard A. Markle
December 20, 1946 - January 29, 2017
Hanover
Richard A. Markle, 70, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Nancy E. (Wetzel) Markle for 48 years. They would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in February.
Born December 20, 1946 in Hanover, he was the son of the late John W. Markle, Sr. and Hazel E. (Benedict) Markle. Richard is a graduate of Delone Catholic High School, class of 1965. He studied at Devry Institute in Chicago and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, having the privilege of working in the White House Communications Department under President Johnson and President Nixon. He was employed at P.H. Glatfelter Company and retired in 2013 after 44 years of service as a master electrician.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, life member of the Amvets Post 22, Glatfelter's Quarter Century Club, and a life member of the former Friendship Fire Company. He was a member of the Hanover Area Historical Society and a former member of the Boy Scouts of America.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Richard is survived by two daughters, Beth A. Harbaugh of Hanover, and Brandy A. Dockey, of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Kayla McCachren, Kyle McCachren, Braidon Dockey, and Dylan Harbaugh; one great-grandchild, Dakota Altland; a sister, Maureen Rinehart and her husband, Pete; a brother, John W. Markle Jr. and his wife, Violet; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard can be remembered as an avid animal lover, being the favorite to his pets and grand pets. He made sure to attend every sporting event for his grandchildren and was a huge supporter to his wife and daughters. He had a great sense of humor and found enjoyment in cooking, reading, watching Orioles baseball, traveling, going to casinos, and taking long drives in the country.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Warehime-Myers Mansion on Baltimore Street in Hanover from 6 to 8 p.m. with Jim Schuman officiating. The Anatomy Gifts registry is handling cremation. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove Hospice, 440 Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or the Hanover Area Historical Society, 305 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
