Richard Sheely Obituary

Richard D. Sheely
Hanover
Richard D. Sheely, 91, reunited with his wife, Isabelle Martin Sheely, May 12, 2016 after a brief illness. He was a resident at Homewood of Plum Creek for ten years.
Born Jan. 29, 1925, he was the son of the late David and Margaret Dyer Sheely.
He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Rode and husband, Roland, Carol Wassilewski, Jane Wilson; and one son, Andrew Sheely and wife, Rebecca. He also had 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He has two surviving sisters, Lois Wolfgang and Betty Neiman, both of New Oxford. One brother, Donald Sheely preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of New Oxford High School in the class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 through 1946 as a member of the First Army VII Corps Field Artillery Battalion. He retired from Hadco of Littlestown and was a life long member of United Church of Christ, Littlestown.
He will be remembered and missed for his sharp wit, friendly talkative disposition, baking and sharing his famous chocolate chip cookies and leading the biweekly exercise classes at Plum Creek.
Auer Cremation Services of Harrisburg is in charge of the funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date for friends and relatives. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Enough thanks and praise cannot be given to the staff at Homewood of Plum Creek and the staff at Hanover General Hospital for the excellent care he received during his stay at Homewood and the hospital.
The family asks that memorials and gifts be given to Homewood of Plum Creek or Christ UCC of Littlestown.

To Richard's family,
We are sorry that we'll be out of town this weekend and won't be able to attend the memorial service at Homewood.
Richard was a good neighbor and a faithful Dart Baseball player. He came to the Omni every Friday afternoon and -- if he'd been "in a slump", he was ready to try again to have a better day. He'll be missed.
