Stephen Gebhart Obituary

HANOVER Stephen Allen Gebhart, 63, entered into God's eternal care Friday, July 4, 2008 at Hanover Hospital. Born November 9, 1944 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Gregory F. and Helen (Brown) Gebhart and the loving husband of Carla M. (Easton) Gebhart, who preceded him in death May 26, 2000. Stephen was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School and York College, where he earned his degree in business. He went on to become a talented builder and retired from his business in 2000. Stephen was also a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of the Hanover AmVets, Moose Lodge #227, and Hanover V.F.W. Stephen enjoyed gardening, fishing, throwing darts, and golfing. Surviving are two children, Jennifer M. Gebhart, of Hanover and Kyle D. Gebhart, of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Gregory F. "Jack" Gebhart, II, of California and Ciprin "Buzz" Gebhart, of Hanover; two sisters, Mary Britcher and husband, Charlie and Ethelyn "Sis" Helwig, all of Hanover; and his special companion, Linda Benedum, of Hanover. A service to celebrate and remember Stephen's life will be held 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will also be held Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veteran Honor Guard. Pursuant to Stephen's request, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. He has also suggested that if your choice is to send a floral piece to the funeral home that you might choose a plant rather than cut flowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover.

Dearest Jennifer, Kyle and Family,
Please know that I am praying for you.
Carla was a dear friend of mine, a big part of my life and our 'Group' at York Catholic.
When she met and fell in love with Steve, we were thrilled! Steve was the most wonderful compliment to Carla.
As Parents, Carla and Steve, always spoke vivaciously about their two "very different" children with honesty, enthusiasm and love.
Just as Carla's Parents, your Parents, were very proud of their children.
I wish you the best of memories, friendly support and love.
Truly,
Anita

I'll remember Steve as a guy who liked to do things in a big way. It's so sad for Jen and Kyle to loose both parents. I'm sure Steve and Carla are with you in spirit. Please know there are many people sending you positive energy during this stressful time.

Jennifer, I was upset at the news of your fathers death, when you gave me call the other night.
Please, Jennifer and Kyle, know I thought of your father with love and respect, he was a wonderful and fun loving person. He always knew how to make me laugh.
He will be missed by many, and many have missed what he had to offer; in kindness, love, humor, and gentleness.
With love and affection,
Brenda E. Crone

Jennifer, Kyle and Family,

I was taken aback when my sister sent the obituary for Steve. Carla was a friend of mine since 1960, and I've known Steve since they were married. I miss Carla very much, and will miss you too Steve. You are a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this sorrowful time. You will be sadly missed. Jennifer and Kyle, my heart goes out to both of you. God bless all of you.

Love, Pam

Please accept my thoughts and prayers for Steve's family. I only knew Steve and Carla and had much respect for both. I rented from Steve for 8 years. They gave me a chance when most people would have closed the door on me, and I thank them both. Steve and Carla made a imprint on my life. I smile now because they are both in God's arms.
