Thelma Staub Obituary

MCSHERRYSTOWN Thelma K. Staub, 95, entered into God's eternal care, Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Bethany Village-Maplewood Assisted Living in Mechanicsburg, where she lived for the past year. Thelma was married on September 5, 1938, to Robert F. Staub, her husband of 58 years, who died February 11, 1996. Born September 7, 1917, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lucy (Nunemaker) Routson. Thelma never knew or saw her father as he died in an industrial accident prior to her birth. We pray that the Saturday reunion that took place with her father(s) in Heaven was as happy as we can perceive. Thelma was a 1935 graduate of Central Catholic High School in McSherrystown and a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown. Nothing was more important to her than family, friends and church. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, singing in the church choir, family picnics and "spur of the moment" travel whenever possible. Surviving are three sons, Thomas Staub and his wife Mary Ann of McSherrystown, Paul Staub and his wife Mary of Mechanicsburg, and Raymond Staub and his wife Margaret of Carlisle; a son-in-law, Thomas Hufnagle, Jr. of Hanover; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Eileen M. Hufnagle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with the Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel officiating. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown. Friends and relatives will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, followed by the rosary at 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Thelma may be made to Annunciation Church Memorial Fund, 26 N. 3rd St. McSherrystown, PA 17344. I remember Thelma as a little girl--we grew up together. They came to visit us on the farm. She was married the year before us and she loaned me her veil for my wedding. The last time I saw Thelma we visited Pennsylvania and she made us chicken pot pie with dumplings. I even talked to her on the phone in the nursing home and I've missed talking to her. She and her family will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm 93 now, so I'll meet her in heaven too.
