Timothy Magraw Obituary

GETTYSBURG Timothy Ian Magraw, 67, died on Sunday, December 28, 2014, after a battle with cancer. He beat the odds, living nearly three years after his diagnosis, and, in true Tim form, packed as much fun as possible into every day he had. A proud and big-hearted father, Tim is survived by his daughters, Leigh Magraw Ayers and Leslie Trew Magraw. He is also survived by Sharon Cline Magraw. The strength and tenor of their relationship following their divorce is a testament to the bonds of friendship and family. Tim was born on January 14, 1947, the only child of Chester and Alma (Blair) Magraw, and grew up in a loving home in Erie. In 1973, Tim moved to Adams County, embracing the area as his home. That same year, he started work as a sales representative at TimBar Packaging and Display, beginning a tenure of 41 years. Tim was a simple man, and delighted in the simple pleasures of life - family, friends, and the bounties of the natural world. He was a sportsman in the truest sense, and found his greatest happiness out in the field hunting pheasants with his dog by his side. Loyalty, quick wit, and generosity of spirit were hallmarks of Tim's personality. Strangers quickly became friends. His warmth and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him. Tim served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. The meaning of that service evolved over time, ripening into a source of pride and solidarity with fellow veterans. A celebration of Tim's life will take place at the Wyndham Gettysburg from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, following a private interment. Guests will be invited to share memories starting at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tim's honor to the Sergeant Mac Foundation (care of Stan Clark, 915 Fairview Ave., Gettysburg, PA 17325) to help ensure wreaths are placed on veterans' graves at Gettysburg National Cemetery. Donations can also be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403. Tributes and condolences may be shared online at www.monahanfuneralhome.com
