Alan Folsom Obituary

PLATTSBURGH - On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, Dr. Alan Laurence Folsom, an extraordinary and much-beloved man, died peacefully at home and in the presence of family and his friend and care-giver, Susan Frances Levaque of Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was 86 years old. Alan was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Fairfield County, on Nov. 29, 1931, to Elwood Earl and Muriel Frances (Kirkpatrick) Folsom. Alan had an older brother, Earl Edwin Folsom (deceased) formerly of Shelton, CT, and is survived by his younger sister, Gail (Folsom) Baer of Pensacola, Fla.

Alan enlisted in the Army in 1951 and served in the 11th

Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Sargeant First Class. He then pursued a career in medicine after graduating from Yale Medical School in 1962. Alan practiced general medicine in Andover, Hornell, and Plattsburgh.

Alan will be remembered by his five children Alan Laurence Folsom, Jr. of Warrington, PA; James Randall Folsom of Longwood, Fla.; Lynne Arlene Folsom of Sulfur, KY; Nathan Andrew Folsom of Sacramento, CA; Seth Alan Folsom of Louisville, KY; and five grandchildren.

Per Alan's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service; however, his family will organize a gathering in his memory and will announce when and where this will take place. His ashes will be interred at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Friends and family who wish to remember Alan are encouraged to donate in his name to a charitable organization of their choosing and/or to do an act of kindness on his behalf.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. 12901 (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com

We started as friends but I quickly grew to love this man. He was so much fun, so smart, and so full of life. I miss him terribly, but I am so, so lucky to have had him as a part of my life. Yes, Alan Folsom was a very, very good man indeed!

Dr. Folsom sure was a unique person. A great Family doctor who loved kids and his patients, and a fun person to be with after working hours. Especially good meetings at the old Ponce Restaurant when myself and the boys would go out after work and have a few lemonades: things really ramped up when Dr.Folsom would arrive on the scene and join in the happy festivities. He was a great man who took care of me and my family. I loved him ! Jim Harrick ; Hornell NY ...

Dr. Folsom took care of our children, both in Andover and Hornell. He was a great doctor for children. He and his wife were very good friends with my Uncle Herm and Aunt Edith Wallace from Andover and their son Tom. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

I was Dr Folsom nurse for a short period of time when my husband was in basic training 40 years ago. He was quite a character and I learned a lot from him. May he Rest In Peace. A good man.

Condolences to the family of Dr. Folsom. He was a wonderful man and a great obstetrician. I loved his bold humor. During a textbook delivery, he spent more time telling bawdy jokes with my husband than with me. I spent more time laughing than breathing. Loved that man.
