Ivan A. Learn

1968 - 2018

TROUPSBURG, N.Y. - Ivan A. Learn, 50, of County Route 117, Troupsburg, passed away suddenly due to an accident near his home on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

Ivan was born in Hornell, N.Y. on May 15, 1968, the son of David R. and Connie R. (Ladd) Learn. He attended Addison Central School and was a 1987 graduate there.

A long time employee of Alstom Transportation in Hornell, Ivan worked in the truck shop where he had held various jobs in the refurbishment of the drive wheel units of subway cars. He was an avid deer hunter, hunting with both gun and bow. He cherished his pickup truck and working with tractors. Ivan was a wonderful husband, father and son who adored his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

On July 19, 2003, he and the former Mertye Orr were married.

Ivan was preceded in death by his son, Jermey Learn on Nov. 1, 2016; and by his father, David Learn on May 25, 1993.

Surviving is his wife, Mertye Learn; his children, Brady Learn (Ashley Bock) of Elkland and Andrew Learn (Lindsey Peterson) of Bradford; his mother and step-father, Connie and Steve Colegrove of Troupsburg; step-son, William (Amanda) Orr of Addison; step-daughter, Laura Orr; eight grandchildren; his brothers, David (Raine) Learn and Daniel (Lori) Learn, all of Woodhull; his sister, Melissa (Ron) Campbell of Lindley; his father-in-law, LaMont (Dawn) Orr of Corning; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, Aug. 10 from 11 am to 1 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull, N.Y.

Burial will be made next to his son Jermey in Young Hickory Cemetery, Troupsburg.
