Alfred Burrows Obituary

Alfred L. Burrows, 79, of Wann, died Friday in Wann.
Alfred was the youngest son of 16 children born to William and Katherine V. (Olson) Burrows on October 20, 1938 in Copan. He grew up, lived and died in the family home in Wann on the family farm that still has the markings of an old stage coach line that ran through the property. Alfred being one of the younger children was able to attend and graduate from Wann High School in 1957. His nieces remember asking him where he was going on Friday and Saturday nights when he was young and he replied "Honky Tonkin" it wasn't till later in life that he met the love of his life Carolyn Rains while she was working for Phillips and he was a pipeline contractor. He admired her love of hard work and willingness to take care of his every need they were married in 1976. Alfred took her unexpected passing in 1992 hard and a huge void was left in his heart. For the past ten years he has found love and companionship with his special friend Connie Collier of Dewey.
Alfred has never been afraid of hard work, he started off driving trucks over the road. In 1970 he started Burrows Brothers Construction with his two brothers Everett and Harvey eventually buying them out and in 1982 started Burrows Trucking. He ran cattle, oil leases and his construction business.
When he wasn't working he sought out family gatherings where food would usually be served, he loved to eat and shoot the breeze. Regular card games were held in the shop office and usually they played his favorite game 2 card. Tom foolery was his game and often times had the younger family members consumed with his falsehoods and the information spread like wild fire. Alfred supported the Local FFH and 4H clubs attending their sales and fund raisers. Copan Truck Stop was his favorite restaurant where he set at the "Liars Table" a special table for those wanting to catch up on all of the local news true or not where often times you might hear him say "I Reckon or You Reckon So".
Alfred is survived by his children, Ray Power and Belinda of Laramie, WY and Beth Smith and Bruce of Missouri, one sister Dora May Hines of Carl Junction, Mo, special friend Connie Collier of Dewey and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, ten brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12-8, Thursday 10-8 and Friday 9-11. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Copan FFA, 527 E Hornet Lane, Copan, OK 74022 or to the Ridin' For The Brand Cowboy Church, PO BOX 147, Wann, Ok 74083.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, August 17, at the Copan Student Center, with Rev. Jimmy Harrington of Ridin' For The Brand Cowboy Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Ks. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven. Our sincere condolences to the Burrows family. Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember.
My mother & I will sure miss Alfred. She enjoyed talking with him because he had so much information it was better than taking the Bartlesville Newspaper. I have enjoyed all our cross country trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Texas. Loading up his car with 3 ladies, spruce tree's, rocks & all our luggage traveling across the country. Those are the good ole days.

Alfred would always stop and talk to me when I was out walking. Always a smile and a kind word. I am going to miss him.

When I think of Alfred I always think of the winter that we had so much ice and for about a month he would come down on the tractor to pick us kids up and take us up to his house to catch the bus there since the bus couldn't make it down to our house. Mom and Dad both sure thought a lot of him. Hope him and Carolyn are having a great heavenly reunion! RIP Alfred.
