Eberle Alexander "Eb" Baldwin obituary, 1926-2011, Bartlesville, OK

Eberle Baldwin Obituary

Eberle Alexander Baldwin of Bartlesville, OK went home to the Lord on June 8, 2011. He was 85 years old.
Eb was born in Columbus, KS on March 5, 1926, to Charles and Gladys Baldwin. He married Ruth M. Sager, his sister Sue's best friend and the love of his life on July 27, 1946. The ceremony was conducted via proxy while Eb was serving with the U.S. Army Infantry in Germany. Ruth joined him in December and they wed again - this time in person. He loved to tease that with two weddings, they had celebrated 128 anniversaries during their 64 years together!
Back in the states, Eb and Ruth lived in California while he studied accounting at San Diego State College. He completed his accounting degree from Seattle after being recalled to serve in the Korean conflict. Eb then studied law at Washburn University and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1955. Eb accepted a position with Phillips Petroleum Company and the family of five moved to Bartlesville. Eb worked for Phillips for 30 years as a tax counsel and assistant general tax officer. He retired in 1985.
The treasure of memories Eb left to his family and friends is overwhelming. With boundless creativity and resourcefulness his grandchildren recall that he could build, fix or clean anything. He was always available to play a game or go for ice cream. Of course, his own homemade chocolate malt was supreme.
Eb is survived by his wife Ruth, and his sister Sue Campbell of Santee, CA. He is also survived by his three children: Gary and his wife Judi of Chewelah, WA; Richard and his wife Candice of Lee's Summit, MO; and Janis Blades and her husband Barry of Wichita, KS. Eb is also survived by 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (with two more on the way).

A memorial service will be held at East Cross United Methodist Church chapel in Bartlesville on Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to "Focus on the Family" (1-800-A-FAMILY) would be appreciated.

I was secretary to Eb in late 60’s and early 70’s for eight years. I often said he worked 18 hour days but I learned so much from him. He was so considerate to his family, work ethic and employees. That was back in “typewriter” days and he only allowed two errors corrected per page! A few times I tried to slip in a third correction on a very long letter but knew I would hear a “Linda?” As he would be holding the letter up to the window to show me he had found the third one! I cherish that memory to this day and think of him often. Ruth continued sending their Christmas letter to me after his death until several years ago after moving close to Janice in St. Louis. I’m sure she passed also soon after when she stopped writing. The Tax Division was a favorite eight years of my 35 years at Phillips.

My heartfelt condolences to Ruth, Gary, Richard and Janis who are very dear friends I always remember with a smile.
I lost my dad in August 2010 suddenly, and my heart understands your loss and reaches out to you. We both have such wonderful memories of our fathers and how wonderful they were in that role and as a shining example of the best role model for life!
I will always remember your dad having the "perfect" yard (beautiful!) and keeping his butter in the cabinet instead of the fridge! ha! And how you designed your house after ours (mom had designed ours). Tickled her that you did that! Loved playing spades with all of you and your dad - he was a tough one to beat!
Take care and know I am sending many warm thoughts your way, always!

Eb would do anything for anybody. He had a heart of gold. I remember that there was nothing that he wouldn't try to fix or build and was always up for a rousing game of Spades. He will be greatly missed. May God provide comfort and peace for all who miss him.

What a great guy! We were in law school together and he was always a top student. Eb could take any side of any issue and debate to the end. On the otherhand, he had the most abiding principles of right and wrong and good and bad of anyone I have known.
Ruth was the love of his life and when they were together, their love for each other blossomed. Eb also loved his children and grandchildren and always had a story about them. We will all miss him very much
