Lorene Robertson

1922 - 2016

Lorene (Mathis) Robertson was born February 9, 1922, in Hazel, OK, to the union of Fon Mathis and Mollie Bell Mathis and passed from this life April 23, 2016, 2:30 pm while at The Journey Home located in Bartlesville, OK.
Lorene's family lived around the Maud area in Oklahoma where she graduated from Central High School in May 1941. After high school she married Elda Marion "Boots" Robertson in Bowlegs, OK, on Nov. 6, 1942. Their only child Elda Dean Robertson was born in Seminole, OK, on Jan. 14, 1947.
Lorene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada 29 years where she enjoyed singing in the church Choir. When she moved to Bartlesville she joined First Baptist Church in Bartlesville.
She graduated as a cosmetology instructor and taught for 14 years at Lela's Beauty College in Ada, OK. She owned and operated her own beauty shop for 17 years in Ada. In 1963 she closed her shop to care for her parents who were sick with cancer. She reopened her shop in 1990 and operated for 13 more years before retiring in 2003 to move to Tulsa to be near her son Dean.
In Tulsa she produced many beautiful works through the blankets she crocheted for hospice patients. On average she completed two-four blankets a month for Grace Hospice of Oklahoma. Lorene spent a great deal of time sewing, quilting, embroidering and crafting for Grace Hospice and her family. She kept herself busy making beautiful quilts for everyone in the family. In Bartlesville she volunteered for ElderCare. She loved flowers and always had beautiful plants in her home.
During World War II, she worked for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City on an assembly line configuring the contour of the pilot door. She also worked for Wrangler jean factory as an inspector in Wewoka, OK, in 1956.
Lorene is survived by her only son Dean Robertson and wife Beverly of Dewey, OK; one granddaughter Ashley Deane White and husband DeJay; one great granddaughter Zoe Alexis McCabe; one step granddaughter Jonna Reynolds; and two step great grands Keelie and Spencer White. She also leaves behind one sister Juanita Burk and nephew Johnny Ashbrook of West Monroe, LA; loving niece Linda Crews and husband Fred of Bowlegs; and nephew John Burk and wife Debbie of Beaumont, TX; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Fon Mathis on Feb. 10, 1968, and Mollie Bell Mathis on Feb. 10, 1987, and brother J. C. Mathis on Feb. 10, 1979 and loving niece Romana Ashbrook Oct. 20, 2015.
Lorene was beloved by many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends keeping their hair in the latest and greatest styles. Dean and his cousins felt like they had two moms keeping them in line during their growing up years: Lorene and Juanita. She loved her Lord and was a wonderful example of a loving mother.
Lorene's family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Tuesday, April 26, from 6-7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Journey Home, 3406 SE Kentucky Street, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at the Dewey Cemetery, with pastors Johnny Burk and Mark Wright officiating.
