Loretta Browning Obituary

Mrs. Loretta Jean Browning, 81, of Copan, died Friday, December 5, 2014in Norman, Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Mrs. Browning will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Biesiadecki of the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday at the Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mrs. Browning was born at Ponca City, Oklahoma on November 21, 1933 the daughter of Jack and Esta (Grimes) Woolman. She grew up in various areas of Oklahoma and Texas where her father served as pastor of different churches. She graduated from high school at Bethany, Oklahoma in 1952 where she was the Salutorian of her senior class. She later attended Central State College at Edmond where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1971. She was married to Edward E. Browning on September 1, 1952 at Ponca City. They made their home first in Edmond and then in the Oklahoma City area until 1969 when they moved to Broken Arrow. Mrs. Browning was an elementary school teacher in Inola and then Broken Arrow until 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Browning moved to Cassville, Missouri in 1978 and Mrs. Browning completed her teaching career in Missouri until her retirement in 1990. Mr. and Mrs. Browning moved to Grand Saline, Texas and Henrietta, Texas where they made their home until 2001 when they retired to the Bartlesville, Oklahoma area and settled in the Copan community. Mrs. Browning was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bartlesville and over the years had served as a church organist and pianist at various churches. Mr. and Mrs. Browning also sang in the Senior Adult Church Choir and served as volunteers with Concern.. Mrs. Browning was an avid reader and would read the Bible through entirely each year. Mrs. Browning also kept a daily journal and in the past was a Girl Scout leader and very involved in her children's activities. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Browning enjoyed traveling extensively in the RV and were season tickets holders for the University of Oklahoma football for 26 years. She was also very involved in her husband's career in hospital administration in various locations.
Mrs. Browning is survived by her husband, Edward E. Browning, four children, Penny Sommers of Broken Arrow, Wendye Dashner and husband Terry of Tulsa, Edwina Jean (Eddie) Morgan and husband Steve of Peculiar, Missouri, Edward (Barry) Browning and wife Leslie of Chesterfield, Virginia , one sister, Linda Jonte of Bethany, Okla., six grandchildren, Madison, Jordana, Austin, Ethan, Camryn and Emma and two great grandchildren, Samantha and Shelby. She was preceded in death by her parents.
