Mildred Johnstone Obituary

Mildred Owen Johnstone, 93, widow of the late Leo H. Johnstone, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at her home in Oklahoma City.
Mildred was born on October 19, 1920, at Oil Hill, Kansas, the daughter of Sam J. Owen and Myrtle McGee Owen. She was raised and educated in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She attended Bartlesville Junior College and Oklahoma A&M.
While working at Phillips Petroleum Company, Mildred met Leo and a life-long love affair began. They were married on December 20, 1943. During Leo's employment with Phillips, they lived in Borger and Pasadena, Texas, in addition to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mildred taught school in Borger, Texas.
Leo and Mildred were long-time members of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, where Mildred taught Sunday school. Mildred was active in the Service League of Bartlesville, serving as President.
Mildred was a talented decorator and created a beautiful home for her family. She provided love and unselfish support to Leo during their marriage of 54 years. She was a devoted mother and was always available to lend a helping hand to her grandchildren, Lisa and Justin Thompson, when they were young. Through her long illness, Mildred never lost her wonderful sense of humor or her faith in God.
The family expresses special gratitude to Valir Hospice, Visiting Angels and the staff at The Mansion at Waterford assisted living for their loving and professional care.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Jane Johnstone, of Houston, Texas; son, Bill Johnstone, of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Lisa Thompson and Justin Thompson, of Houston, Texas, Megan Haston of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Paul Johnstone of Chicago, Illinois; two great granddaughters, Emma and Madeline Haston of Hobbs, New Mexico; a sister, Helen Donnell and a brother, Russell Owen, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Come and go visitation will be held on Thursday, 9:00 AM-8:00 PM, in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Friday, June 13, 2014, beside the grave of her husband in Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with Rev. Dale Scott of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
