Donald James McClellan, 79, of Independence, MO, passed away on March 25, 2026. Services will be held at Royer's New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, MO, on Friday, April 3, 2026, with visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m., followed by burial in New Salem Cemetery.
Born on March 29, 1946 to William Frank McClellan and Margaret Elizabeth Harbert in Kansas City, MO, Donald arrived a few minutes after his twin brother, Ronald.
Growing up in Shawnee, KS with his brother, Ronald and sister, Barbara, Donald graduated from Shawnee Mission High School where he participated in many activities including baseball and track and field.
After serving in the United States Army Reserve, Donald became a member of the IBEW Local Union 124 and, among other jobs, worked as an electrician for Kansas City Public Schools until his retirement.
Donald loved supporting the Royals and Chiefs. He loved baseball, in particular, often volunteering to coach local baseball teams, including those of his sons, John and Doug. He was also a very sociable person. He could engage in lengthy conversation, even with people he just met. As such, he is survived by and preceded in death by many family and friends.
Donald is survived by his brother, Ronald; sister, Barbara; first spouse, Linda; sons, John and Doug; daughter, Wendy; granddaughter, Sabrina; and grandson, Mason. He was preceded in death by his second spouse, Christina; and is survived by his daughter, Amber; and granddaughter, Averie. He is also survived by Annette and Keith, exceptional friends who helped Donald in his final years.
