Judith Anne Standley

1938 - 2021

Judith Anne (Armstrong) Standley passed away at age 82 on February 10, 2021 at the Fountains at Greenbriar, in Independence, where she had lived for the past three years.
She was born on October 6, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to Bill and Billie Armstrong. Judith married Wm. Harry Standley on June 30, 1957 and they were married until his passing in July of 2016. They had three children, Marlene, Daniel and David. Judith attended Central Missouri State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was also a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She used her knowledge and love of children to mentor kids in Head Start, Project SHAPE, President of PTA, Perennial Room-Mother at her kid's elementary school and taught Kindergarten at Jean's Private Kindergarten. She would adopt a family every year and provide Christmas to those who could not afford it. She instilled those values into those around her by leading by example.
Her obsession with collectibles and "never met a stranger" attitude made her a great fit for the years she spent at Sandy's Hallmark. Judith also managed anD operated a seasonal ½ Price Holiday Store for several years. She loved people and travel. From her trips to the British Isles and France, to the cruises in Glacial Alaska, she loved seeing the sights and taking in culture. She was not a fan of the heat as those who knew her can attest to her "look at me sweat." Travel also meant across town to see grandkids, great grandkids and nieces/nephews.
She held season tickets at the Starlight Theater since the mid 70's. With that, she spread the delight of live theater to many friends, family and kids that would not have otherwise had access to the experience. Other activities that occupied her time were lunches, teas and fundraisers with the Daughters of the British Empire, Bingham-Waggoner Society and Red Hat Society.
Judith was a member of the East Alton Community of Christ church for over 50 years and spent time helping with church functions and women's group.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene and sons Daniel and David, nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is survived also by her special friend, Ron Childress.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private service will be held for the family. Judith will be laid to rest at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. A celebration of life to honor Judith will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.speakschapel.com.
