Miriam Baker Obituary

MIRIAM "MARY" FRANCES BAKER Miriam "Mary" Frances Baker, 83, passed away on February 19, 2023, at Tipton Oak Manor in Tipton, Mo. Mary was born March 30, 1939, in Walker, Mo., the daughter of Floyd Cullison and Georgia Cox. She was raised by her grandparents, Iverson Underwood and Floy Miriam Mitchell. After attending school in California, Mo., she married James L. Baker, Sr. in Alamogordo, N.M. on July 15, 1955. She moved to the Kansas City area in the 1960s and began a 35-year career as a floor welder, 28 of those years spent with Allis-Chalmers. Mary was very proud of her welding career but also found enjoyment sitting in with bands in New Orleans playing a tambourine and a rub board. She also played on a pool league for several years as well as an all-female softball league. She found great pleasure in woodworking projects and finding innovative ways to fix broken mechanical equipment. Her volunteer work included the Fairmount Community Center, where she received the 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award for efforts building and running their library. She also enjoyed traveling with her BFF, Cheryl. She dearly loved her children and grand/great-grandchildren but there was an unspoken rule never to be broken: Do not call during a KC Chiefs game. She was a die-hard Chiefs fan even during the bad years. She was able to see the Chiefs win in the Superbowl, a blessing. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine (Keith) Loague, Ulm, Mont. and her son, James (Debra) Baker of Centertown, Mo.; her grandchildren, Gina (Joe Rapier) Baker, Amanda (Justin) Allen, Kathryn (Conor) McCarthy, Helena (Troy) Lovick-Lane, Daniel Lovick, Charles (Dandan) Lovick, Megan (Brian) Brunelle; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Cullison. As per her wishes, there will be no service/visitation. Her son, James, will have a Celebration of Life dinner for family on March 11 in Jefferson City, Mo. Memorial contributions suggested to American Cancer Society, Lions Club, Fairmount Community Center.

I am so sorry that I didn´t know Mary had passed. Mary was beloved to us, and we were so thankful to have her as our neighbor for so many years while our children are growing up. Jason passed this week. he and Mary were such good friends over the years. Jason has had serious health problems for the past five years and we had lost touch with her but thought of her often. please know that we would´ve been there if we would´ve known and could´ve been. she always brought good tidings and special surprises for the kids. We always took her baked goods homemade. The kids would argue over who was going to get to take them over to Mary. They loved her like a grandmother when she first found out that Jason`s body had been ravaged by cancer in 2018, she was one of the first people to come over and spend some moments with him before his greatest struggles of life has just begun. she would get us tickets to baseball games and to the zoo when her organization was going. She always wanted Jason and the kids to join and sometimes I was able to go as well. What a special person she was and loved by so many. Sending love from the Smart family... Lori, Jeffrey, Dalton, Ally. I am glad that she and Jason are reunited in heaven. They are going to have many more great times together as they did over the years.
