Steven Pace Obituary

Steven J. Pace, 59, of Independence, MO, passed away on Wednesday August 19, 2020.

A Celebration of Life honoring Steve will take place at a later date.

Steve was born on September 17, 1960 in Waverly, IA to Maurice and Bernita (Volk) Pace. Steve Pace loved college wrestling. He considered himself one of the biggest fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates and he never met a hungry Little League baseball player that he didn't give a handful of quarters to play some of the video games inside of Tim's Pizza.

Steve passed away in his sleep Tuesday, and his death has left shockwaves throughout Eastern Jackson County as he and his brother Tim, were two community icons whose pizza, pasta and sandwiches were only topped by their philanthropy. When someone walked into Tim's, Steve would have their drink on the counter before they walked through the door. He not only knew what pizza they wanted, he made sure that extra cheese or no green peppers made the meal even more special. Tim's has that hometown feel, almost as if you could slip off your shoes, slide into a booth, and enjoy the best pizza on the planet.

While "Brother" Steve will be missed, he will never be forgotten, as the accolades he is receiving from across the country can help the family realize that one person can make a big difference in this crazy world.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Joe and Sherry Pace of Forest City, IA; Mike and CJ Pace of Sparta, WI; Ann and Ken Opatz of Lisbon, IA; Tim Pace of Buckner, MO; Carol and Bob Connolly of Johnston, IA; and Dave and Karen Pace of Blue Springs, MO; as well as, countless close friends that were loved by Steve as his own family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blue Springs South High School Wrestling Program or Animals Best Friends.

I worked at Tim's Pizza when I was a teenager. Having witnessed the first class commitment they had to serving and knowing their customers, I can tell you that the only thing they were more committed to were their employees. Such a great place to work run by even better people. I'm late to see this saddening news - but I'll always remember Steve (and Tim) and how they inspired me to be better man at such a young age.

Tim’s Pizza is as special a place as I’ve ever experienced...friends, family & everybody knows your name...Steve sure did!

So many memories...Steve greeted us when I was a little leaguer, in high school, college...before and after so many Royals & Chiefs games.

Steve always connected...brought that unique kindness to every interaction!

May he Rest In Peace!

My last conversation with Steve was he gave me a coupon for a free pizza. He thanked me for my service as a police officer. I have been retired for three years. What a gentleman. I will not forget him.

I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. Tim my heart goes out to you. Our family came to Tim's every week for years ! When we quit coming so frequently you both still remembered who we were and that Jeff Liked his pizza double cut and on parchment paper. I feel like a member of my own family has passed away so unexpectedly. Please know our prayers are with you as you move along this journey. Blessings to you my friend.

I will miss Steve saying "Hello Jim" when I walk into Tim's. Steve had a unique sense of humor. One of my fondness memories with Steve was going to see Nolan Ryan pitch against the Royals. It was a fun night. We both drank way too many beers.

Steve will be greatly missed. He always had a smile for everyone. He was a great neighbor. He always waved and honked going past our house and would keep on it when when we gone in the RV. He waved at us when we walked Teton. When we needed help reseeding our yard Steve had the equipment in our driveway. When we ordered our favorite vegetarian pizza everyone knew no onion and add green olives. Steve always sent a cold adult beverage in a separate sack. We send our sincere condolences to Tim and his family and everyone at Tim's Pizza. Steve, Rest in Peace, friend and neighbor. Margie, Sandy and Teton.

Steve made everyone who walked in the door feel welcome. No matter how long it was between visits he always knew my name, where I worked and asked about friends that he had not seen lately. Tim, you will be in my thoughts and prayers in the months to come . GOD bless you always. Steve will be greatly missed.
