Charles Pritchard Obituary

Pritchard, Charles

Charles Pritchard died unexpectedly in his home on October 25, 2014. Born 1/14/1960 in Hout Boy, South Africa, he grew up and resided there until moving to Westport in the early 90's. He leaves behind a young daughter Schuyler, age 13, who meant the world to him.

Charles was an avid seaman, sailor and boating expert and spent a few of his Westport years living on his sailboat in the Saugatuck River. You could usually find Charles working on a boat or out on the water near Cockenoe Island with Schuyler.

He was an artistic craftsman and inventor. His company, Pritchard Guitars made professional, creative and very unique electric archtop guitars. Charles collected driftwood from Cockenoe Island and repurposed it into exquisite fine furniture. The coupon machines we see and use in the grocery store aisles were largely invented by Charles and a former partner. He could tinker with and fix anything.

In addition to Schuyler, other family members include two brothers, Shaun who resides in Washington State, and Martin, a sister Dile and his mother Joy who still live in South Africa. He had been married to Liane Bernard of Westport.

Among his many qualities, Charles was a gentle soul, very social, humorous and introspective, and it was a pleasure to be with him. He will be remembered, loved and missed by his many friends, Schuyler and extended Dunville's family. If Charles had a last word for everybody, it would be "Cheers".

A celebration of Charles's life will be held at a later date to be announced.
