He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn C. Roberts; his parents, Troy Roberts Sr. and Earlie S. Roberts; and his siblings, Joseph Roberts, Christine Hunt and Herbert Roberts.

Troy Roberts worked in the textile industry for 30 years, retiring from J.P. Stevens in 1993. In 1996, he and his wife retired permanently to North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He enjoyed fishing on waterway and taking walks on the beach or riding his bicycle every morning. He enjoyed his neighbors and spent many pleasant afternoons outside of his home, sitting in the shade swapping stories and opinions with those who cared to stop by. Many of his friends and neighbors trusted him to look after their property when they were away, he was considered to be the unofficial Mmayor of their community. He loved taking his family and friends touring on his golf cart throughout the neighborhood while listening to George Jones on compact disc.
He was a faithful member of the Myrtle Beach Assembly of God. Our Father was fortunate enough to have the love and support of many friends and neighbors over the years, most of whom cannot all be named. The family extends a very special thanks to Francis Fairfax for the care and friendship over the years. In addition, the family is thankful to Johnny and Darlene Johnson who helped to look after our father.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Revels Funeral Home Pembroke.

I met Troy when we purchased our place in The Grove about 13 or 14 years ago.
I often would see him in his yard and stop and talk with him and he would stop in and visit with me and my family. We are not full time residents in Cherry Grove and he would keep an eye on our place for us when we weren't there.
We will surely miss seeing Troy, but I know he is in heaven now.
