Johnetta Davis Obituary

JOHNETTA G. DAVIS

November 1, 1939 - December 2, 2025

Johnetta Garner Davis, Ph.D., transitioned peacefully on December 2, 2025, after a short illness. Born November 1, 1939 in Warrenton, Virginia. A distinguished educator and trailblazer in higher education, she was a proud Howard University alumna, Associate Dean, and Professor Emerita. She later served as Dean in the University of Maryland graduate school.

She is survived by her brother-in-law Dr. Matthew Kinnard; nieces Dr. Mary (Glenn) Kinnard-Brown and Dr. Lisa (Moses Garuba) Kinnard; grandnephew Gabriel Kinnard-Brown, cousin Robert Garner, cherished friends, colleagues, and generations of students she inspired.

Memorial Service, Thursday, January 8th at 10:30 AM; College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center 3501 University Blvd., E. Hyattesville, MD 20782. Interment of Urn Saturday, January 10th at 12:00 noon; Warrenton Cemetery 110 W. Lee Street, Warrenton, VA 20186.
