William "Bill' Insley Weinig

William (Bill) Insley Weinig, 87, of Ashburn, VA, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, after a battle with cancer.

Born July 9, 1938, in Silver Spring, MD, Bill graduated from American University with a Bachelor's in Philosophy. He proudly served as a drummer in the United States Air Force Ceremonial Band (1961–1965). Following his service, he built a long and distinguished career as a civil servant, retiring from the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration in 2007.

Bill married Susan Elizabeth Dugan in 1983. They were devoted parents and avid hosts, sharing passions for antiquing and home renovation until Susan's death in 2019.

Known for his passion for antiques and his remarkable collection of German beer steins, Bill was a founding member of the Gambrinus Stein Collectors International. A lifelong musician, he performed with and later led the Edelweiss Band for many years. He was also a dedicated volunteer for community projects.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Weinig; his parents, Louis and Maurille Weinig; and his cousin, William Morgan. He is survived by his children, Alexandra (Allie) McGehee (Seattle, WA) and Emily Summers (Pittsburgh, PA); cousins, Rees Morgan and John (Chad) Morgan; and beloved granddaughters, Grace and Caroline.

Memorial services will be held on November 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, 43600 Russell Branch Pkwy, Ashburn, VA 20147, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the American Red Cross.
