Clyde Counts Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - Retired Sgt. 1st Class Clyde Preston Counts, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in the N.C. State Veterans Home. Clyde was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Glade Springs, Va., to the late Thomas Levi Counts and Anna James Counts. He was preceded in death by a son, Bob L. Counts of Fayetteville. Clyde is survived by a wife, Ruby Counts of the home; a daughter, Cynthia C. Malone and her husband, Nelson, of Fayetteville; three sons, Don R. Counts and his wife, Jennie of San Antonio, C.P. Counts Jr. of Plano, Texas, and the Rev. Tom J. Counts and his wife, Yvonne, of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Clyde served 28 years and eight months with the U.S. Army as a jumpmaster with the 82nd Airborne Division. He fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and was awarded two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart throughout his service. He went on to work for Kmart on Bragg Boulevard as an assistant manager for 15 years. The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A funeral service with full military honors will follow on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 1 p.m. at New Testament Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Counts and the Rev. Hurbert Lowery officiating. Interment will proceed at Lafayette Memorial Park. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
