David Hinkamp Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE - David Girard Hinkamp, 50, of Fayetteville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, while vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C. David was born July 30, 1961, to the late Walter B. Hinkamp and Ruthene McPherson Hinkamp in Fayetteville. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School in 1979, attended Campbell University on a golf scholarship and later Holland School for Jewelers. David was the 1986 Cumberland County Golf Champion, holding the tournament's scoring record for many years. He was co-owner of Hinkamp Jewelers Inc. with his brother, Wally. David was a devoted husband, a passionate father, a loving brother and uncle and a true friend to so many. As someone passionate about giving back, he drew from past experiences to connect with others and inspire those around him to commit to the Lord. A dedicated servant to Village Baptist Church and its school, the community and the military, he never missed an opportunity to contribute whatever was needed. David gave of his time, heart and passion to several causes that are much the better for God loaning him to us for such a seemingly short period of time. The Lord chose David to become his servant along with "Dot," his loyal wife. He leaves behind a legacy cherished and remembered by family and friends. David and Dot were inseparable. Always the romantic, David's love for his wife was evident to all. Their love for each other only grew stronger with time and Dot's love for her husband will continue to grow with the memories they created. He shared his enthusiasm for athletics with both of his children. David and Brice had an unbreakable father-son bond, full of treasured memories, which Brice will forever hold dear. As his father's constant sidekick, the two enjoyed competing with one another in everything, including golf, fishing and bowling. His daughter, Brett, along with her strong athletic ability in volleyball, basketball, and softball, truly was admired by her loving and proud father. David was a true follower and supporter of all her endeavors, athletically and academically. He shared an extremely close and special relationship with his twin sister, Donna, leaving a void that can never be filled. Working with his brother "Wally" on a daily basis, David was not only his business partner, but a friend who could always be counted on. David was an active member of Village Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a lifetime member of the Booster and Fine Arts clubs at Village Christian Academy. Loving each and every child as if they were his own, David made it his personal goal to see as many as possible find salvation through Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruthene Hinkamp; and a brother, Edward Hinkamp. David is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" Rice Hinkamp; his son, Brice; and daughter, Brett. He also is survived by his twin sister, Donna Hinkamp Warren, and her husband Mike; his brother, Walter "Wally" Hinkamp Jr., and sister-in-law Susan Hinkamp, all of Fayetteville; his mother-in-law Shige Rice, of Spring Lake; 31 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews. The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, in Village Baptist Church, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. David will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Village Baptist Church or Village Christian Academy at 908 S. McPherson Church Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303. Services entrusted to Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Dear Dot: We just heard the awful news about David ~~ we are stunned and so saddened by your terrible loss. You and the boys will surely be in our hearts, thoughts & prayers.

January 10, 2012

We were shocked and saddened, like so many, to hear of this terrible loss. When we lived in NC, I always looked forward to stopping by Hinkamp's to catch up with David (and Wally). We have many wonderful memories of volunteer time spent with David and Dot at Village Christian Academy events. David's unwavering faith, was an inspiration to many. We will miss his warm grin, his laugh, his sense of humor, his kindness, and his living testimony to a life that was turned around and renewed, in his commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Dot, Brice, and Brett, to Donna and Wally and their families. We will smile, picturing him playing golf in Heaven, on golf courses that have cart paths made of of solid gold and gems, and remembering that he brought in this New Year, seated at the throne of the Father. David, you will be missed, but we were privileged to call you "friend"! We will make a donation to your beloved VCA, in your memory! Lori, Don, Ryan, and Matt Farmer (Florida)

Having lived in Fayetteville all of my life and attending Village Baptist Church, I am well acquainted with the precious Himkamp family. Fayetteville is all the better for their witness of our Lord and Savior, the love that is expressed to all who have ever been in contact with them, and the righteous works produced from an abiding faith. David's influence will continue in his blessed children.

May God give the Hinkamp family His peace that passes all understanding knowing that where He is, the family is being gathered In His Loving Care for life eternal. Praise God!!!

We are saddened at David's passing but we are encouraged as we remember that he is in all of our our future. David leaves an unparalleled legacy that has touched our lives as well as anyone within earshot of his person. Few people ever put legs to their passions to the extent that he did. Dot, Wally, Donna and all of the Hinkamp family at the store. I have not the right words to express our sorrow upon hearing of David's passing; but know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Every time we walked into the store David was always there with a smile and a greeting; we enjoyed our many, many conversations with him. To say he will be missed would be the understatment of the year but know that as we keep him in our memories and hearts; he will live forever. He will not be soon forgotten. God bless and keep all of you.

Dear Hinkamp Family,
Darlene and I have been missionaries since 2004. We consider David one of the finest men we have ever known, a friend, and a Brother in Jesus Christ. Davids Home going seems sudden, But im sure Jesus looked at him and said "well done, thou good and faithful servant". We will sure miss him for now, but look forward to our reunion in Heaven. Davids testimony of His salvation was clear, his faith was evident, and his spirit Christ Like.
We are praying for you, and Love you.

David always had a contagious smile and a gleem in his eyes. You couldn't help but smile and laugh, sometimes wondering what made him so happy all the time. I have never met anyone with any more energy than David, besides his brother Eddie. I imagine they are embracing each other now and reminiscing about old times together, as well as times with their family and friends. I'm so sorry for the family's loss and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I worked with you David for a little over 3yrs. We had hard days, good days, really fun days and days where we couldn't stand each other. You were one of a kind and treated me like I was part of the family. The past couple of nights I have been kept awake by memories of funny times that were had in and out of work.
It was always alot of fun when you would get Wally all fired up over absolutely nothing but it sure made the day go by faster. The way you always wanted to correct my grammer just to drive me crazy. The day we turned the tv on in back and got sucked into a lifetime movie and then took turns waiting on people as they came in. When we traveled to Boston to visit Hearts On Fire and you kept walking out in front of cars and I would have to remind you "they will hit you here". Oh and how many times did I hear the golf game of 1986.... Hinkamp Jewelers will never be the same.
I know that you are having a blast in Heaven but you will be missed here below.
To Dot, Brett, Brice, Donna, Wally and the rest of the family. Thank you for making me one of your own. XOXO

Dear Dorothy, Donna and Wally and families, I am so honored to have known David. David gave my Son, David Hall, a job working on Saturdays in the store. All of you made David feel as though he was a member of your families. He loves each and every one of you. You are all an inspiration in his life. He would tell me how David loved everyone, and that is so true. He made a difference in my son's life and in many other people's lives.

I was so shocked to hear of his passing into heaven. I know he was received with open arms. Everyone has lost a very special friend, husband, brother, father and he will be missed by everyone that he met.

I pray for comfort for all of your families in this time of loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Christ has another shepard in heaven and we should all praise God. David was an outstanding Christian, who served God, church and community. I will miss his smiling face everytime I go in the store, and I know my son, David, will also. He will forever treasure all of his memories with his friend, David Hinkamp.

God had blessed David beyond measures and he has left behind a wonderful Christian legacy. Your families will continuly be in our prayers. We love you all.
