Roger Thompson Obituary

LUMBERTON - Roger Dale Thompson, 61, of U.S. 74 West, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, in his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium chapel in Laurinburg. Burial with military rites will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Pembroke. He is survived by his wife, Chestine Locklear Thompson; a daughter, Capujene Thompson of Lumberton; two sisters, Dunnie T. Williams and Olean Seals of Gibson; a sister-in-law, Betty Faye Hunt of Pembroke; and three close friends and Vietnam comrades, Dwight Belky of Wilson, Sonny Bullard of Red Springs, and Milton Bartley of Camp Lejeune. Born Aug. 9, 1970, in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Ervin and Mildred Outlaw Thompson. He served two tours of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam and later served with J.P. Stevens, Butler Manufacturing and Campbell Soup. Roger's positive attitude was contagious, and he always carried it with him wherever he went. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight, Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at the McDougald Funeral Home & Crematorium in Laurinburg. Memorials may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Roger was one of the best friends I ever had. A wonderful person with a great big heart. He will be missed! Cap, he loved you with all his heart and was very proud of you.
