John Duncan Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John (Jock) A. Duncan announce his passing on Saturday March 25, 2023, at the age of 88 years.  Jock will be lovingly remembered by his four children, John (Lisa), Cathy, Michael (Elisabeth) and Tim (Melissa).  Jock will also be remembered by his 12 grandchildren, Sean (Katherine), Erin (Payton), Matthew (Lauren), Allison (Michael), Brooke (Dan), Christopher (Rebecca), Duncan (Christi), William, Kathleen, Tucker, Ryan and Haley.  He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren… Grace, William, Sam, Jack (John the V), Peter, Holden, Owen and MJ.  He is predeceased by his wife Noanie, married 64 years, and sisters Joyce and Dorothy. 
Jock graduate in 1952 from University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio.  Then went on to Williams College, where he received in 1956 a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Jock was the founder of a successful estate and financial planning company that he started in 1959.  He lived in Tenafly, NJ for over 45 years before retiring to Amelia Island, FL.
In addition to running his own business Jock was actively involved in a myriad of professional and civic organizations.  Jock served on the board of the Actors Fund of America as Treasurer for many years.  He was National Director of The American College (CLU), President of the Northern New Jersey CLU Chapter, President of the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County, Councilman of the Borough of Tenafly, former trustee of the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, past Chairman of the Tenafly, NJ Planning Board, past president of the Bergen/Passaic NJ Life Underwriters Association and past president of the Mary Fisher Home.  Jock also was a Little League Coach for his three sons.
Jock was a man of great strength and character.  He epitomized our true purpose on Earth, to make the very most possible with our individual abilities and talents, and to have love and compassion for others.  He taught us all the value and importance of having a positive attitude.  He will be deeply missed.
Jock was also a true lover of animals, having dogs until his passing.
A memorial service will be held at The Amelia Island Plantation Chapel on April 24 at 3 p.m. followed by a reception at the Amelia Island Club to celebrate his life. 
Memorial donations in memory of Jock can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County or the Humane Society of Nassau County.

REMARKABLE person in his own right. One of my favorite people. Just full of love for all never met a stranger, Had the privilege having him as a client along with his beautiful wife. I will always miss them. They were so very good to me for years very special people, was able to see him last year.
