Juanita Karol Broome

Juanita Karol Broome, age 85, of Fernandina Beach, Florida peacefully passed into eternal life on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Warner Center for Caring.
Born in Gaston County, North Carolina, she was one of nine children of the late Rubin and Annie Dixon Huggins. Juanita spent her early years in Cramerton, North Carolina and devoted much of her life to caring for her family as a homemaker.
A true world traveler, Juanita lived across the globe during her husband's military service and later through his corporate career. Her life's journey led her to Japan, Singapore, Colombia, and Panama, among other places, where she built homes filled with love and raised her children with care and grace.
She spent many years in Denver, North Carolina, and later in Savannah, Georgia, before making Fernandina Beach her home during her final year. Juanita had a deep love for bowling and was a gifted seamstress, known for her skill and creativity. Above all, she treasured her family and took great pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Lamar Broome, Jr., and siblings Maxine, Peggy, Betty, Pete, Larry, and Michael.
She is survived by her children, Sylvia Morris of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Christopher (Tammy) Broome of Fernandina Beach, Florida; her siblings, Tony (Sybil) Huggins and Jackie Huggins; her grandchildren, Sebastian Morris, Hayden Broome, Jerry Broome III, Kevin Broome, Adrian Broome, and Chastin Seeby; and her great-grandchildren, Addisyn Shippey, Nathan Mays, Emmett Lamar Broome, and Caden Broome. She is also remembered by her former husband, Jerry L. Broome and her dear friend Theda Clarabut.
A service to remember and celebration of Juanita's life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors, with Reverend Julie Higbee officiating.
