Darrell Jean "Jean" Bryan, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at his home after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Jean was born to the late Clyde and Allie Bryan. He married Romaine Short of Delta in October 1954, and she survives.
Jean was raised in northwestern Ohio. He graduated from A.I. High School in June 1950, and studied at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. He left school in 1952 to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. When he returned, he and Romaine moved to Tulsa, Okla., where Jean was enrolled in Spartan School of Aeronautics. After his graduation, they moved to Inglewood, Calif., where Jean worked briefly for Douglas Aircraft. He joined IBM in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1958, and in 1962 moved with IBM to Fort Wayne, Ind.
After retiring from IBM in 1990, Jean and Romaine traveled the U.S. as full-time volunteers in Christian ministries. Their final assignment was with Wycliffe Bible Translators in South Dallas.
Jean is also survived by four sons; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Earl Bryan of Marietta, Ga.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Wesley Bryan and Charles "Tooter" Bryan, and one grandson.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at First United Methodist Church of Duncanville, Texas.
