Widlake, John Victor
John Victor Widlake, 91, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.
John was born Dece. 27, 1919, in Green Lake, the son of William and Emma (Genge) Widlake.
John graduated from Green Lake High School.
He spent three and a half years serving our country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. John was in the 505 Parachute Infantry Band and the 9th Infantry AGF Band. He was also in the 1019th Treadway Bridge Engineers in the Europen Theater of Operations.
On May 31, 1949, John married Emily Krentz at Our Saviour's United Church of Christ.
He worked for the Ford Motor Plant in Dearborn, Mich. as a machinist, as a vendor for Borden's Milk and as a custodian at Ripon High School.
John was a noted trumpet player in the Larry Woodbury Orchestra, the Oshkosh Melotones Orchestra and other various orchestras during the Big Band Era.
He was a member of Our Saviour's United Church of Christ in Ripon. John had an amazing memory that could trace way back to his childhood and he loved playing golf, playing the organ and arranging orchestral music.
Survivors include his wife, Emily of Ripon, WI; one son, Tom (Tammy) Widlake of Ripon, WI; grandchildren, Clint (Stephanie), Melissa, Heidi (Lee) Martin and Bonnie; great-grandchildren, Sam, Levi, Hudson, Addison and Bella and one more on the way.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bill Widlake on Dec.31, 2008; grandson, Chad Widlake on March 25, 1995; two sisters, Gertrude and Grace and four brothers, Paul, Harold, Thomas and Arthur.
VISITATION: Visitation for John Widlake will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI, 54971.
SERVICES: Funeral Services for John Widlake will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. The Rev. Mark R. West will officiate.
Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Memorials may be given to Our Saviour's United Church of Christ, Church Choir, 343 Scott St. Ripon, WI 54971.
