Kevin Hilbert Obituary

Hilbert, Kevin L.

Kevin L. Hilbert, 46, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born in Fond du Lac on July 10, 1969, a son of Gerald and Nancy (Harris) Hilbert. On July 14, 2001, he married Carla Pankratz at Sacred Heart Church.

Kevin loved life here on earth. His love for the Lord was first and foremost and his family was a close second. He enjoyed each and every day to the fullest. He started his days at the Y playing racquetball, pickle ball and basketball five to six days a week. Any sport he could play, with anyone he could, made him happy. Kevin was a man who loved his wife and his kids more than words could describe. He did anything he could for them at every opportunity. Just to be with them was enough. He had great respect for his parents and enjoyed spending time with them and with his family. Kevin was a people person and gained his energy for life from his many, many relationships. He relaxed watching football, when he could, and spent time watching the Packers until Favre retired. His passion for the Badgers developed after, and he was very happy to attend games with a friend or family member whenever he could. Jimmy Buffett was another passion. The past decade plus Kevin went to a concert each year. The last seven years became a family/friend day which he spent months planning for and talking about. Going to Buffett with the kids, as they became old enough to be parrot heads, on a big coach bus became the highlight of the year. Kevin started his apprenticeship at Hanson Refrigeration after high school and continued in the refrigeration, heating and air conditioning field until he started his business; HILBERTS Refrigeration, Heating & Air Conditioning LLC in October 2003.

The legacy that Kevin left behind was love, kindness, caring, sharing, generosity, compassion, forgiveness and happiness. All who knew Kevin were blessed beyond what any words can describe. There is no doubt that his footprint has been left on the lives and in the hearts of so very many.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Carla and their four children; Randy (Ashley) Geasland and grandkids, Mason, Jackson and Dawson; Caila Geasland and fiancé, Mitch Koepke and granddaughter, Natalee; Ryan Hilbert and fiancé, Adrea Duerwaechter; and Emily (Seth) Lulloff; his parents, Gerald "Jerry" and Nancy; brother, Tim (Donna) and their children, Andrew and Abby; sister, Amy (Scott) Sabel and their children, Alyssa, Byron and Logan; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Kevin will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 beginning at 11:00 AM at Ascension Lutheran Church, 901 County Trunk V in Fond du Lac with Pastor Jeff Blain officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016 at church from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM and again Monday, May 16, 2016 from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Cremation has taken place.

Played basketball with Kevin at the Y for a number of years. Not your typical basketball body type, but he enjoyed playing and everyone enjoyed playing alongside him. Probably had the highest shooting percentage from 10' to 12' from the basket than anyone in Y history. Eventually lost him to those racquetball guys, but he'd still make a guest appearance in the gym from time to time.

From the hard court, we evolved into a working relationship as we used each others services on commercial rooftops. Always was great to work with.

I called Kevin on May 10th for a price quote on a job I was bidding. He didn't answer, so I contacted Randy and he gave me what I needed. Kevin returned the call later that afternoon, but I was with someone and couldn't take it. Never called him back. Big mistake.

If there was ever a person that you just felt good around, it was Kevin. Always happy, always positive. I will miss him.

Kevin was a tremendous asset to our community. As a small business man myself, I had great respect for the effort and passion he put into the business he built. It's a rare person who can build his dream from the ground up and I had great admiration for Kevin.

Kevin loved to talk Badger Football and in me he always had a willing listener.

Kevin and his staff did a lot of work for us and became familiar faces and friends to our business. Our entire team is saddened and we wish the family God's comfort and peace at this very difficult time.
