Mary Scharf Obituary

Mary Ellen Scharf

Mary Ellen Scharf, 76, of Oakfield, died Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Grancare Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born May 13, 1938 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Harry and Frieda Schmal Turville. On April 8, 1961 she married Leonard A. Scharf at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac. Mary helped her husband on the family farm for many years and also owned and operated a ceramic studio for 35 years. She is a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oakfield and a life member of their Ladies Aide. Mary was a member of AMPI, Wisconsin Women in Agriculture; National Women in Agriculture, and was very active in the Fond du Lac County Republican Party. Mary also volunteered at EAA for 20 years. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting and drawing, traveling, and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Len; three children, William (Nikki) Scharf, Woodbury, MN, Mark (Jeanne) Scharf, Madison Lake, MN, and Rebekah (Stephen) Mueller, Miramar, FL; four grandchildren, Erich (Sarah) Scharf, Elena, Alec, and Sofia Mueller; two step grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis and Jared Lewis; two sisters, Carol Schultz, Fond du Lac and Ruth (Jim) Pieper, Mesa, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Peggi Scharf; and an infant brother, Kenneth.

The visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Oakfield.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Oakfield with Rev. Christopher Goelzer officiating. Cremation will follow the traditional services. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's memory are appreciated and can be sent directly to St. Luke's Lutheran School, 245 S. Second Street, Oakfield, WI 53065 or Winnebago Lutheran Academy, 475 E. Merrill Avenue, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
