Sr. Halfmann Obituary
DAVENPORT -- Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Azaria Halfmann, OSF, 92, a founding member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christ the Divine Teacher, Davenport, were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Ave., Davenport. Sister Azaria died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at The Alvero Health Care Facility in Clinton.
The Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport, has been entrusted with Sr. Azaria's funeral arrangements.
Marie Halfmann was born April 24, 1920, in Fond du Lac, Wis., a daughter of Joseph and Susan Halfmann.
She entered the Order of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi in Milwaukee, Wis. She professed final vows on June 13, 1942. She dedicated her life to prayer and serving her order.
Memorials can be made to the Franciscan Sisters of the Divine Teacher, in care of the convent, 2605 Boies Ave, Davenport, IA 52802.
Survivors include her siblings, Gregory Halfmann, Louie Halfmann, and Sr. Serena Halfmann, O.S.F.; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as the foundress of the Community, Sr. Bernadette Counihan, OSF; and current Mother Superior, Sr. Susan Rueve, OSF. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ed, Cecilia, Agnes, Margaret and Gertrude.
