WATERLOO - Eleanor Virginia Jackson, 99, passed away peacefully Friday (September 26, 2025) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY with her family by her side.
The memorial mass will be 10 AM Saturday (October 11) at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY. Fr. James Fennessey, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY 13165 or the St. Francis and St. Clare Parish, 35 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165.
Eleanor was born April 27, 1926 in Jamaica, Queens, NY, the daughter of Edward and Celia Conlon Van Gallera. In high school, she was active with the Red Cross, helping with the war effort; she graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1944. Eleanor began her career as a legal secretary with Western Electric in NYC.
She and Ernest Jackson were married on February 16, 1947 at Our Lady of the Cenacle in Richmond Hill, NY. They moved to Ithaca, NY in 1958, where she was active in the Immaculate Conception Church as a religious education instructor, and the Ladies Guild. She was an active member of the Secular Franciscan Order, known as the 3rd order of St. Francis. She moved to Waterloo, NY in 2008 to be close to her family, and was a communicant for St. Mary's Church in Waterloo. She and dad enjoyed their winter home in Dade City, FL for many years.
Eleanor is survived by her loving daughters Eileen (Rick) Miller of Waterloo, NY and Kathryn Kline of Ovid, NY; grandchildren Donald (Amber) Prouty, Lynn (Dustin) DeCook, Jacob Miller, Kristopher Kline, and Kenneth (Jesie) Kline; great-grandchildren Haylee Rose Prouty, Austin James Rossman, Daiker Lee Prouty, Jaxson DeCook, Jozie (Billy) Black Giovannini, and Yasmeen (Mark) Wilcher; several great-great-grandchildren; nephew Robert (Carolyn) Van Gallera of Winder, GA; and a niece Lois (Joe) Dark of Tyler, TX.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Jackson, in 2003; her parents; and great-granddaughter Chloe Marie Rossman in 2011.
