Mary Switzer Obituary

SENECA FALLS – Mary Jean (née Davis) Switzer, 72, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025 (her mother's birthday), at Geneva General Hospital after a long illness. She joined her husband, Joe, for eternity in the family mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. Mary was born November 20, 1952, the daughter of Melvin A. and Joan Wass Davis at the old Seneca Falls Hospital. She was a 1971 graduate of Mynderse Academy and worked for several years at Chick's Diner on Route 5 & 20, where she met her first and only boyfriend, later to become her beloved husband, Joe. He was from Buffalo and came to Waterloo weekly with his buddies to attend the stock car races. Joe and Mary were married for over 28 years and lived in West Seneca (Buffalo) until his death in January 2000. She stayed in Buffalo for several years, but later decided to move back to Seneca Falls to be closer to her mother whom she helped with doctors' visits, groceries, and made sure "mom" wasn't alone. Mary loved animals, owning many dogs and cats over the years – they were all special. She also enjoyed crafting and sewing, making the best cream puffs, and transforming into an elf to help Santa deliver Christmas gifts to the handicapped at the group home in Seneca Falls. Mary is survived by 5 siblings; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; paternal grandparents; an uncle; a brother-in-law; her mother's family in England; and her in-laws. Mary requested donations be made to any guaranteed "no-kill" animal shelter – While there, you may even find a little friend who needs a caring heart and a loving hand who will brighten your days. "We will meet again at the Rainbow Bridge."
