Gilbert Nelson Huskey

1933 - 2015

Gilbert Nelson Huskey, 82 years of age, of Hallsville, died Oct. 2, 2015 at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital, Columbia. He was born Jan. 18, 1933 in Poplar Bluff the son of Wesley and Annie (Buchanan) Huskey. On Sept. 12, 1954 he was married to Violet Turner at Hallsville Baptist Church in Hallsville. Mr. Huskey served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a carpenter, member of the Hallsville Baptist Church (which he helped build), was a deacon at Hallsville Baptist Church, served on the Hallsville City Council, the Hallsville School Board and the Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Violet Huskey of Hallsville; Daughter Julie Ann Huskey of Ashland; Son Lesley Lee Huskey and wife Lisa of Ashland; Grandchildren: Emily Cavanaugh and husband John; Megan Winfrey and husband Brandon; Hannah Parker; Allyssa, Jacob, Haley and Leah Huskey. Great-grandchildren: Damian, Cheyenne, Preston Cavanaugh and Braxton Winfrey; Siblings: Leo Huskey of Columbia; Ellis Huskey of Sturgeon; Rinda Blakemore and husband Dale; Eugene Huskey and wife Debbie; Several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Hallsville Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 with Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Interment was held at Glendale Memorial Gardens, Centralia.
Pallbearers were Daryl Richardson, Jamie Jeffries, Brandon Winfrey, Jeff Brechler, Tony Cunningham and Benjamin Schooler.
Honorary Pallbearers were Lonnie Reeves, Doug Stinson, Bill Cundiff, Roger Jeffries, James Willis, Eli Jeffries, Mike Breedlove, Bob Parks and Daryl Beckett.
Memorials suggested to Central Missouri Food Bank, Columbia, Missouri.
Fenton Funeral Chapel, Centralia, in charge of arrangements.
