Daniel Curley Obituary

Daniel "Danny" P. Curley
lifelong resident of Leominster; 59

LEOMINSTER - Daniel "Danny" P. Curley, 59 years old of Leominster, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 30, 2018 at HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Susan "Sue" R. (McDermott) Curley, daughter Sarah Jane Plouffe and her husband Kevon of Ayer, son Daniel J. Curley and his girlfriend Sarah Doyle of Leominster, brother John J. Curley, III and his wife Anne-Marie of Leominster, sister-in-law Constance Curley of Leominster and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Michael F. Curley in 2005.

A lifelong resident of Leominster, Danny was born in Leominster on February 7, 1959, son of John J. and Jane K. (O'Toole) Curley, Jr. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1977. As a star athlete in both football and basketball, Danny had many athletic achievements which led to him being a two-time inductee to the Leominster High School Hall of Fame. He was a member of the 1974 Blue Devils, undefeated state football champions, selected in 1976 to the Telegram & Gazette super team and was known as one of the best offensive lineman ever to play at LHS. He played varsity basketball for three years at LHS and had the honor of being selected as captain his senior year.

After high school he attended Choate Rosemary Hall Prep School in Connecticut and went on to graduate from Tufts University in 1982 where he was a member of the football team all four years of his attendance.

Danny was the head of the Fitchburg Redevelopment Authority and a lifelong member of St. Leo's Church in Leominster.

Danny enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with his friends and family at his summer home on Spec Pond and escaping to Naples during the winter whenever he had the chance.

An avid sports fan, he frequently attended Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics games in his younger years. However, football and the New England Patriots were his absolute favorite and in recent years he attended many Sunday games with his beloved friend Steve Rigopoulos.

Above all, Danny was a family man. A devoted and loving husband to Sue, the best father to Sarah and Daniel whom he was so proud of. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

CURLEY - The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 4th from the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster with a mass at 11 am in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main Street, Leominster. Burial will follow in St Leo's Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 3rd from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Leominster Public Library, 30 West Street, Leominster, MA 01453. www.richardsonfuneralhome.net.

Sue,
We can't begin to tell you how sorry we were to hear about Danny. A great man gone way too soon. Our memories go way back when our son Chris was 2 and Danny would constantly play basketball ball with him when my parents lived next door at Spec. He was so patient and kind. I loved watching him grow up year by year!
Years ago we met his football coach at Tufts who had so many wonderful things to say about him. He had a lasting positive effect on everyone!
Your family is in our prayers at this difficult time.

Sue, Sarah and Dan,

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dan.
We first met as fierce competitors in high school sports. I immediately admired and respected him for his relentless competitiveness and sportsmanship...before we even became friends. Years later, I was fortunate enough to reconnect with Dan coaching our sons in youth sports. We quickly became lifelong friends. The first words that come to mind when I think about Dan is his great love for his family. His family meant the world to him.
I will greatly miss my visits to his office and our chats when he would stop by my business. Our conversations about sports, life and our families always brightened my day.
Thank you Dan Curley for those battles in sports which led to mutual respect and a lifelong friendship that included our families.

It is with deep sadness that Coach Vaillette and I wish to extend our deep regrets on learning of Danny's passing. Coach Vaillette remembers Dan fondly as his best offensive lineman and terrific student with such a great personality. Danny - you were my classmate and you will sorely be missed in St Leo's church every Sunday.

I grew up with the Curley family in Leominster. Dan's older brother Mike and I were the same age. Danny always had a smile on his face and it was always great to see him. Playing football in the backyard at 14 View St. was a daily activity. Although Danny was the smallest kid, he was the toughest. He would bring down any running back with ease. This skill continued onto the high school and college fields he played on. I worked with Dan in his professional career in Plastics and later in Economic Development. Dan was always someone you could count on. He always showed up and always came through. I will miss my friend very much. My condolences to Sue, Sarah, Dan and family.

Our hearts are broken to lose such a special person and lifelong friend. I will miss seeing him sitting on the end of his dock at Spec Pond soaking up the rays and reading a mystery novel until sunset He watched over me as I took my daily swim and we would chat each day about our families, friends, our lives and how precious life is. Another way to honor Danny could be with a donation to the Doyle Field Foundation as they are going to redo the field house, football locker rooms and create the Hall of Fame.
