George Nadeau Obituary

of Fitchburg, decorated WWII Vet; 87

FITCHBURG -- George P. Nadeau, 87, of Fitchburg, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Health Alliance. Leominster Hospital.

His wife, Alice M. (Hachey) Nadeau died in May 2007.

Mr. Nadeau was born in Fitchburg, March 17, 1924, a son of George and Aurore (LeBlanc) Nadeau, and resided most of his life in Fitchburg. He was very proud of the fact that his father built the house he was brought up in. Brick by brick, taking the bricks from a broken down mill by horse and buggy his father worked for over 20 years building the house.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Cynthia and John Staveley; a son and daughter in law, Edward G. and Jean Nadeau all of Fitchburg; his grandchildren Nick Renaud and Derrick Nadeau both of Leominster, Lauren Renaud, Desiree Procell and Shauna Staveley all of Fitchburg, Tiffany Pearson of Townsend; four great grandchildren Deanna Procell, Dana Procell Jr., Gabriella Procell, and Autumn Renaud. He also leaves his special friend, Jeannette Leblanc of Fitchburg.

He was the father of the late Leonard Nadeau of Fitchburg who died 1987, and the brother of the late Mark Nadeau and Charles Nadeau.

During WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. He was assigned to the Fifth Infantry Division and took part in the D Day invasion + 6. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

For over 40 years, he worked as a millwright at the former Weyerhaeuser Company, currently known as Crocker Technical Papers in Fitchburg. Prior to entering the military service, he worked on the railroad.

In his younger years, he loved to work in his cellar, ride his motorcycle, and attend flea markets with his sons. Mr. Nadeau also enjoyed camping with all of his friends and relatives for summers at Lake Dennison. He also enjoyed taking his trailer to Old Orchard Beach, Maine and traveling with his best friends Bill & Hilda Metzger.

Following the death of his wife, among his pleasures were going out daily for lunch with his daughter at SS Lobster in West Fitchburg, where everyone knew his name. Going out with her family on Sundays, watching baseball games with his son-in-law, John and spending Holidays at his daughter's home.

NADEAU -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 A.M., Wednesday, July 20th at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
