SHIRLEY -- Harold J. Landry, 92, of Shirley, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Doris (Ruel) Landry who died in September 2007.

He is survived by his son, David Landry of Shirley; two daughters and sons in law, Elaine D. and Dennis Hoffman of Greensboro, Georgia, Judith A. and Kent Fluet of Shirley; a daughter in law, Surani Landry Kwan of Santa Rosa, California; a brother, Joseph Landry of Shirley; a sister, Rose Quatrale of Shirley; six grandchildren, Matthew Labowicz and his wife Terry, Jessica Hoffman, Megan Landry, Jodi Pinales and her husband, David, Cassie Landry and Sienna Landry. He also leaves two great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Leonard P. Landry of Santa Rosa, CA and his brothers Edmond J. Landry of Shirley, Robert Landry of California, Frank Landry of NH and his sister, Beatrice Briggs of Ayer.

He was born in Shirley, November 18, 1918, a son of Athanace and Lucy (Chaisson) Landry and was a lifelong Shirley resident. He attended Worcester Boy's Trade School in Worcester and Ayer High School. In 1999 he, with several local veterans, were awarded honorary diplomas from Ayer High School.

During WW II he served his country as an airplane engine mechanic in the United States Army Air Corps. During that time was stationed in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

He was an active member and past commander of the Shirley American Legion and through the years had participated in many memorial services honoring fallen servicemen.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, Shirley and was a member of its Holy Name Society.

For over 20 years, he worked as a typesetter at Blanchard & Brown Printing Company in Fitchburg, retiring in 1986. Prior to that he had worked at Samson Cordage Works in Shirley.

LANDRY -- A funeral Mass will celebrated 10 AM Thursday, December 9th at St. Anthony's Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are 5-8 Wednesday at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information.

Mr. Landry's family would like to thank his primary caregivers, Terry Labowicz and Megan Landry, for their many kindnesses and wonderful care over the past several months.

Harold was married to my cousin Doris and although we were not close throughout the years I know he was a good man and will be missed by his family. May he and Doris be happy together again.
