James 'Jim' Gelep
Formerly of Fitchburg, MA, WWll Vet; 91

MILTON, MA -- James "Jim" Gelep, 91, passed away recently on July 11, 2016 in Milton, MA.

He was born and raised in Fitchburg, the son of Gus and Helen Gelep. He graduated high school in 1943 and enlisted in the US Navy the same year and served in the Pacific Theater on a Destroyer Escort during WWll. On his return, he worked in his father's restaurant "The Bon Ton" in Fitchburg. He worked for the Crocker Burbank Paper Co. and then worked for Matthews Chevrolet. He and his wife spent the next 40 years living in Mashpee on Cape Cod. They owned a frozen yogurt and sandwich shop called "Happiness Is" in Falmouth, MA.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rosemary, his two sons, Paul and his wife, Ellen of Needham, and Dean and his wife, Monica of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter, Gail Gelep of Weymouth; two grandchildren, Emma and Grace Gelep of Needham; two sisters, Betsy of Fitchburg, and Mary of San Diego; a brother, Paul of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

He and Rosemary moved to Milton 2 years ago. He died peacefully with his loving wife and son, Paul by his side.

A memorial service will be held in Milton at Fuller Village, 1372 Brush Hill Rd., Milton, MA 02186 Sunday August, 28th from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Jimmy was a wonderful brother and a hero to me, his younger brother. Even though we didn't see each other often in these recent years, we had great phone conversations laughing as we reminisced. Joane and I love you and will miss you, Jimmy.
