Michael Debitetto Obituary

Michael Francis Debitetto
former resident of Leominster, MA

Michael Francis Debitetto, 93, of Venice, FL and former resident of Winchester, MA, Leominster, MA and Sarasota, FL, passed away on January 24, 2019. He was born to Angelo and Mary (Antonelli) Debitetto on December 13, 1925 in Fitchburg, MA. He graduated in 1944 from Fitchburg High School where he ran a 4 minute mile in track and received his letter from the Varsity football team. He then served in the USAF as a Sergeant during WWII. He attended both Nichols College and Clark University to earn his BA. He later, at the age of 45, attended Suffolk Law School and obtained his JD in 1975. Education was always very important to him, a sense of humor was key to a happy life, and letting loose on the dance floor was a passion he shared with his wife Rita Ann (DiGeronimo), who passed on March 13, 2012, as well as golf, tennis and Yankees baseball.

In the early 1960's he and Rita Ann co-founded the Debitetto

Insurance Agency until they retired to Florida in the early 90's. Mike was a member of the Leominster and Venice Elks, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He was an avid golfer and tennis player and was quite proud of his name on plaques at Oak Hill Bent Tree and Prestancia Country Clubs where he had memberships. But Michael was most proud of his loving children; daughter Diane Debitetto of Orleans, MA and his son, Michael (Cheryl) Debitetto, of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws; Dorothy and Ronald St Laurent of Venice, FL and Gloria (Arthur, deceased) DiGeronimo of Leominster, MA. He also leaves behind four adoring grandchildren; Max J.(Sable)Weisman, Nathan Debitetto and Jake Debitetto all of Massachusetts as well as godchild David (Laurine) DiGeronimo and his many DiGeronimo and St Laurent nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

DEBITETTO - An honorary service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL. Following the service, a collation will follow at Tuscan Gardens, 841 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice, FL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude or the American Bladder Cancer Society.

Never forget this fine gentleman and family friend.

It was a pleasure to get to know him and reminess about Leominster. He knew both mine and my husband's families, funny how path's can cross. He told me stories about his schooling later in life and encouraged me to go back to school. He was a great guy and made us laugh, we will miss him here in Venice!

Many years of wonderful times were spent with the Debitetto family. Mr. Debitetto (Mike) was truly a gentleman with a kind heart and lots of class to go with it. The entire Mina family mourns his loss and we send our love and condolences to his children Diane and Michael, as well as to other family members and friends.
