FITCHBURG -- Olive Marie (Leger) Martin, 92, of 1169 John Fitch Highway, formerly of 161 Spruce St., Leominster, died Wednesday evening, March 17, in Birchwood Care Center, after an illness.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1911, in New Brunswick, Canada, the youngest of 15 children born to Patrick and Eugenie (Gagnon) Leger, and moved to the United States when she was 17 years old.
Years ago she had worked for the former Anwelt Shoe Co.
Mrs. Martin was a talented painter who liked to work in oil and charcoal. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. She was a spiritual woman and a loving and sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She leaves two sons, Theodore W. Martin and his wife, Nancy, of Rindge, N.H., and William C. Martin and his wife, Karen, of Ashby; two daughters, Florence M. Tyler and her husband, David, of Palmetto, Fla., and Ann Leger Ballard of Westminster; one sister, Sophie Doucet of Worcester; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Martin, Theodore Martin Jr., Sherry Pento, April Martin, Michael Martin, Jeffrey Martin, John Martin, William Martin Jr., Scott M. Tyler, Senja Bickford and Trisha Bastine; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Theodore N. Martin, died in 1981. A son, Francis R. Martin, died on April 4, 1988. Thirteen brothers and sisters predeceased her.
MARTIN -- On March 17, Olive Marie (Leger) Martin, 92, of Fitchburg. The funeral will be held Saturday, March 20, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the Mass on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
