Born in Fitchburg, he was the son of the late Elias and Martha (Kangas) Lammi. Mr. Lammi graduated from Tufts University with a degree in mechanical engineering, and received a master’s degree from MIT in 1949. He worked for Sylvania/GTE Laboratories for 29 years, and was active in the GOAL/QPC organization for quality control. He served as lieutenant commander in the Navy Seabees, and was stationed in Guam during World War II.
A lifelong athlete, Mr. Lammi played basketball in college, was an avid runner and track athlete. He enjoyed travel, visiting relatives in Finland, and was a charter member of the Fairtown Squares square-dance club.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Helli (Tallgren) Lammi of Topsfield; a daughter, Linda Lammi of North Reading; two sons, Eric Lammi of Holliston and Peter Lammi of Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
LAMMI -- A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Mackey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., Danvers. If desired, donations may be made in Raymond’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
