He was born on Aug. 27, 1937, in Leominster, the son of Lester and Dora (Crisafulli) Newton and had lived in Fitchburg, and for the last 35 years lived in Lunenburg.
He was a foreman for the B&M Railroad for over 30 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Fitchburg-Lunenburg Lion’s Club. He loved going camping and his water gardens. He also loved to go antiquing at several area locations.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Navy from 1954 until 1962. While in the Navy he was a Golden Gloves boxer. He had attended Our Lady of the Lake Church, in Leominster.
Mr. Newton leaves his son, Jeffrey L. Newton, and his companion, Kelly Spofford of Templeton; his daughters, Pamela A. Whitlark of Ashby, and Pamela White and her husband, Michael White, of Leominster; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Whitlark of Ashby, Eric Newton of Fitchburg, Katie Newton of Fitchburg, Tazia Newton of Templeton, Nickolas Morrell of Leominster and Adam White of Leominster; two great-grandchildren, Jasia Whitlark of Ashby and Jaden Newton of Fitchburg; and his friend and companion of 13 years, Susan Raymond; and several nephews and nieces; and his best buddy, his dog, Hannah. A brother, Robert Newton, died in 1989.
NEWTON -- On Dec. 28, Raymond L. Newton, 67, of Lunenburg. The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster. Inurnment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery will be held at a later date. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

I'am very sorry to hear about the loss of Ray. I've know Ray for over 20 years, did some remodeling on his home. Ray was a good man, God Bless Ray!
